Packers elevate rookie OL from training squad for week 15

A rookie offensive lineman will make his NFL debut for the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night.

The team elevated exhibition squad guard Zack Johnson to the game day squad for week 15 against the Carolina Panthers.

Johnson, an undeveloped free agent from the state of North Dakota, has been with the Packers since late April. He was registered with the practice team after a training camp.

Johnson (6-6, 301) started the last 46 games of his collegiate career and has experience in guarding and tackling, although the Packers refer to him as a guard.

Teams may raise a practice team player twice per season. Johnson has not yet been elevated in 2020.

The Packers are likely to want more depth along the line of attack and are off the charts for Ben Braden, who was on the game day roster for games against the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions. An increase was to replace COVID-19.

Johnson wears No. 68.

The Packers and Panthers are scheduled to kick off at 7:15 p.m. from Lambeau Field on Saturday night.
