Free PS4 and PS5 games we may get before January 2021

2021 is almost here, which also means that the first PlayStation Plus free games of 2021 are also almost here. That said, Sony has not yet revealed at the time of publication which free PS Plus games PS4 and PS5 players can look forward to for the first month of the new year. The past few months have been great for subscribers, but many expect it to get even better, expecting Sony to start the new year off right. And considering how slow January 2021 is in terms of notable releases, it could prove desperately needed.

In the past two months, PlayStation Plus has treated subscribers to two free PS4 games and one free PS5 game. It is still not 100% clear that this will be the new standard in the future, but for the purposes of this article, we assume that this trend will continue.

Hitman 2

Reason: Assassin 3 will be out next month on the PS4, PS5 and other platforms. Not only is it the first major release of 2021, but it is also one of the few notable releases in January 2021. Before its release, IO Interactive and Sony would be smart to Hitman 2 free. The first Hitman game is already made for free through PlayStation Plus, but not Hitman 2. For IO Interactive, once Hitman 3 releases, Assassin 2 sales are likely to plummet, meaning now is the perfect time to cash in a PlayStation Plus check and generate hype and interest for Assassin 3. For Sony, it allows them to have a remarkable AAA game in their first offering of 2021. Furthermore, as multi-platform gamers Hitman 2 on PS4 or PS5, they are more likely to stick with PS4 and PS5 Assassin 3.

Godfall

Reason: Godfall may have just been released, which would usually disqualify it from PlayStation Plus, but it needs the players and injection of life that free on PlayStation Plus can deliver multiplayer games. It’s likely coming to Xbox and possibly other platforms sometime in 2021, but that won’t matter much unless it starts to change things. For Gearbox and Counterplay games, the appeal is clear. For Sony, it may not only tick off the PS5 box, but also help with a game it has ditched marketing in and is considered one of the console’s bigger exclusive launches.

Travel to the Savage Planet

Reason: Travel to the Savage Planet is celebrating its one-year anniversary next month, making it a great time to play for free on PlayStation Plus. Not only have 505 Games and Sony teamed up in the past, but 505 Games has little to lose right now. Not only will there never be a sequel now that developer Typhoon Studios is owned by Google, but it has likely sold a vast majority of the copies it will sell right now.
