“René” from Residente, one of the 25 best Latin songs on Billboard

René, a song by Puerto Rican rapper René Pérez in which he takes away his virtues, flaws, fears, joys, sorrows, desires and triumphs, was included in Billboard magazine’s Top 25 Latin Songs of 2020.

The managers of La Buena Fortuna, representatives of the artist, reported this in a press release last Friday.

Officially René Pérez, Residente’s first name, released the song and video clip René last February 27.

At the time, Residente confessed that this song is the main theme in his personal life and that composing helped him through a very difficult time a few years ago.

“This song helped me get out of a place I didn’t want to be. I had to go back to my city, to my house, to meet my friends, I had to be myself again ”, the singer said at the time.

The single is accompanied by a very emotional video directed by the artist herself, who currently has 156 million views on YouTube.

In it, it is visible with transparency and without armor.

Recorded in his hometown of Trujillo Alto, it views his life to this day.

The song even received two nominations in the last annual Latin Grammy award for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, winning the second.

“Art was not made to set records, we are not in the Olympics,” the Puerto Rican said in a speech at the time of the award.

Residente’s win was met with great astonishment, as he did not expect it, as he acknowledged, as he competed with sales leaders such as Karol G, Ricky Martn, Juanes and Maluma.

Other Puerto Rican songs that were among Billboard magazine’s top 25 Latin songs were “Yo perreo sola” by Bad Bunny; “Dákiti”, by Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez; “Un Día”, by Bad Bunny, Tainy, J Balvin and Dua Lipa; “La toxica”, by Farruko; “Caramelo” (Remix), by Ozuna with Karol G and Myke Towers; “Relationship” (Remix), by Daddy Yankee, Farruko, J Balvin, Rosalía and Sech, and “Tattoo” (Remix), by Rauw Alejandro and Camilo.

Meanwhile, “Mesa para dos”, an album by Puerto Rican Kany García, has been included in the top Latin albums on Billboard.

Other albums by Puerto Rican artists on this list were Ozuna’s “ENOC”; “The Favorites 2”, by Arcángel; “Emmanuel”, by Anuel AA; Easy money baby by Myke Towers and Pausa by Ricky Martin.
