PHOENIX – In a press conference Friday, Banner Health officials report that the mortuary capacity has been exceeded due to recent COVID-19 deaths and that 55% of the IC beds in their facilities are occupied by COVID-19 patients.
Dr. Marjorie Bessel, Banner’s Chief Clinical Officer, said 49% of all patients are treated for COVID-19.
“These deaths have caused us to exceed our morgue capacity in some of our hospitals,” said Bessel.
Bessel added that Banner Health is using refrigerated trucks to expand Banner-University Medical Center Phoenix’s mortuary capacity.
