Final Fantasy 7 villain Sephiroth Was revealed last week as the next fighter to be part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and he will join on Dec. 23, director Masahiro Sakurai revealed in a live stream on Thursday. So Sephiroth can face nemesis Cloud Strife in the Nintendo Switch brawl this Wednesday.
However, you can use him early if you beat the Sephiroth Challenge, which is available from December 17 at 3 p.m. PT to December 22 at 5 p.m. PT (only people who paid for him can access the challenge). He’s also coming with the Northern Cave stage, which recreates (and completely spoils) the ending of Final Fantasy 7 – but it seems unlikely that the remake will end in exactly the same way.
Sephiroth is the third fighter in the $ 30 Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Fighters Pass Vol. 2, after Steve from Minecraft joined in October and Arms’ Min Min in June. The pass will include six new fighters, and Nintendo said they will all be available by the end of 2021.
The previous Fighter Pass costs $ 25 and includes the Joker from Persona 5, The Hero of Dragon Quest 11, Banjo-Kazooie, Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury and Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
Each new fighter comes with a new stage and music, and costs $ 6 when bought separately. If all these Sephiroth talks have made you long for Final Fantasy 7, the excellent remake hit PS4 earlier this year and the 1997 original is available on Switch.
