Hideo Kojima appears in Cyberpunk 2077 (ever so briefly) along with a BB bottle baby, so it’s only fair that he returns the favor. The PC version of Death Stranding today added new crossover missions and gear inspired by CD Projekt Red’s dystopian RPG, including Johnny’s silver hand, a cyber bike, and those old cyber lines for Sam’s face. He is even given the opportunity to hack machines. The update is free and available now. Watch Cybersam in the trailer below.
Along with Johnny Silverhand’s cybernetic arm and aviator curtain, that bike (“with improved bounce,” they say), and the obligatory inexplicable facetracks, the crossover has some Cyberpunky holograms. And! Six new missions, announced to contain “Cyberpunk 2077 characters and lore.” Plus the new hacking capability, which gives Sam “the ability to prevent Mule sensor poles from activating for a limited time, stun enemy Odradeks, and hack Mule trucks to stop them.” Lotta Short Circuit hacks are deployed.

It is an interesting meeting of two open world games that have been: 1) long awaited because of the previous games from their creators; 2) have many celebrity cameos. Death Stranding turned out to be very different from what people expected, but actually quite good. Cyberpunk 2077, ah, it’s huge and beautiful, but falls short. You can find the little BB in Cyberpunk on a side mission, The Hunt. As for Kojima, he’s hanging out in the hotel bar during The Heist. Blink and you will miss it. Or, like me, you’ll see him because you love to stare at NPCs but don’t realize it has to be Kojima, because he’s got a different name and frankly doesn’t stand out in a game where every other NPC has a cool leather jacket.
