In the great tradition of great airline safety videosAlaska Airlines found a way to combine an 80s pop hit and some smooth dance moves with important information about flying on a pandemic.
The airline released the Alaska Safety Dance video earlier this week. It’s set to the ticking tune of Men Without Hats’ synth-heavy Safety Dance, but with some updated lyrics, such as “we can fly if you want / we can leave your house”.
The video shows a dancing pilot and flight attendants, all wearing masks. It includes pop-up facts on how the cabin air is changed every two minutes, and the planes use hospital-grade HEPA filters.
“You can emphasize the importance of safety and still enjoy it,” video director Warren Fu said in a statement from Alaska Airlines.
One of the big takeaways from the video is that Alaska Airlines only welcomes masked passengers. And that you should wash your hands. A lot of.
For comparison, you can check out Men Without Hats’ completely trippy original music video, a mainstay in MTV’s early glory days.
