Nathan Apodaca, the low-key skateboarder whose TikTok tribute to Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” and Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry juice went viral in September, has COVID-19, his rep confirmed.
“He’s resting at home and getting better,” Gina Rodriguez told The Times on Tuesday.
His fiancée, Estela Chavez, is also sick with the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19, according to TMZ, according to TMZ, which first reported the news.
Apodaca, aka DoggFace, posted a TikTok of himself on Tuesday afternoon and danced around to Matt Ox’s “Dazed”. In the caption, he wrote, “The show must go on.”
The TikToker, who lives in Idaho, has traveled extensively since he rose to fame, according to TMZ. He went to Las Vegas last month to get engaged and recently spent time in LA working on several projects. The flights to and from Los Angeles were his first plane trips, the site said.
The virus has been rampant in Southern California lately, with Ellen DeGeneres, Sharon Osbourne and Carrie Ann Inaba among those with the disease.
Apodaca, 37, recorded his famous TikTok video after his car battery drained on his way to work in a potato warehouse and he decided to ride his skateboard there. Apodaca lived in a trailer without electricity or running water.
Once the video hit, his life changed dramatically. Fleetwood Mac’s Mick Fleetwood joined TikTok to post a homage video. Stevie Nicks and former Mac member Lindsey Buckingham followed with their own videos. And TikTok put Apodacas, Fleetwoods, and some other images of impersonators in its own commercial, which aired on TV.
Fans showered Apodaca with $ 15,000 in online donations, a gift he called “life-changing” on his website. He also got a cranberry red truck from Ocean Spray and a local car dealer in early October. The TikTok video was a free advertisement for the juice, not to mention the 1977 song “Dreams” from Fleetwood Mac, which also saw sales soar.
