The Chargers fired head coach Anthony Lynn on Monday, a day after the team closed the 2020 season with a 7-9 record. Lynn finished with a record of 33-31 in his four seasons with the Chargers.

Lynn, hired in 2017, began leading the Chargers to back-to-back winning seasons, including a 12-4 record and a playoff win over the Baltimore Ravens in 2018. But the team has been down significantly over the past two seasons , in part because of terrible injury luck, and Lynn’s limitations as a game and time manager were exposed in a series of close losses. The Chargers finished 5-11 in 2019, and a team that suffered significant injuries this season struggled again despite a record-breaking rookie season from quarterback Justin Herbert.
