7.1 Magnitude earthquake shakes the northeast coast of Japan | The world

TOKYO – A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the northeast coast of Japan on Saturday, shaking cities of Fukushima, Miyagi and other areas, the Japan Meteorological Agency reported. The quake was felt in Tokyo, in the southwest.

Japanese public broadcaster NHK TV said the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant was still looking for problems and there were no immediate reports of irregularities from other nuclear power plants in the area.

The agency said the earthquake had its epicenter about 60 kilometers (37 miles) below the sea floor. The same area was hit by a tsunami, earthquake and nuclear disaster in March 2011.
