6 new COVID-19 deaths in Tuolumne province, 6 new cases in Calaveras

Tuolumne County – Public health reports six deaths among residents of Tuolumne County attributed to COVID-19. The State notifies Tuolumne Public Health of likely COVID deaths that require further investigation. The investigation confirmed that these six individuals, who were previously released from COVID-19 isolation, later died. The individuals included a man in their 60s, two men and a woman in their 80s, and a man and a woman in their 90s.

There were six new community cases in Tuolumne County today, and they all appear to be isolating. A total of 7 people have been released from isolation and 4 are currently hospitalized, up from 6 yesterday.

The new community affairs include 1 man and 1 woman in their 30s, 1 man in their 60s and 2 men and 1 woman in their 70s.

In Tuolumne County, there are a total of 3,520 cases across 2,279 community cases and 1,241 prisoner cases at the Sierra Conservation Center. Total tested is 23,986, which is 35 less than yesterday due to data cleaning including removing duplicates. The total number of community cases recovered is listed as 2,116 with 122 community cases active. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation today reports 61 active inmates.

Calaveras County – Calaveras public health reports 6 new COVID-19 cases and active cases increased by 2 to 112. A total of 1,492 have been recovered, an increase of 4. The report notes that COVID-19 hospitalizations are still in 4 Calaveras- residents. The total number of cases is 1,626 with 735 males, 868 females and 17 with unreported genders. The majority, 722 cases of covid, are in the 18-49 age group, and 376 are listed as over the age of 65. Calaveras public health reports that it has received 2,321 vaccinations, 121 more than yesterday, and continues to distribute doses as eligible. Calaveras remains in the purple low with 41.9 cases per day per 100,000 and an average positivity rate of 11.9% over 7 days.

Tuolumne also stays in the purple layer of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy color Tier System. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) officials released their update reporting Tuolumne with 21.8 new COVID-19 cases per day per 100,000 and an average positivity rate of 5.4% over 7 days. Both Tuolumne and Calaveras have adapted their numbers due to their low populations. Mariposa stays in the red layer.

Led by the state, purple layer means:

  • Restaurants may be open for outdoor dining
  • Certain low-risk youth sports competitions may be resumed
  • Nail salons and hairdressers can reopen indoors with adjustments
  • Gyms can work outside with adjustments

The levels are updated every Tuesday based on the number of cases from a province and the percentage of test positivity.

Calaveras Public Health partnered with Dignity Health’s Mark Twain Medical Center to vaccinate people 65 and older in Calaveras County. Individuals aged 65 and older interested in getting the vaccine should call (209) 754-2564. Those calling must provide their full name, date of birth and telephone number. To test: A mobile COVID-19 testing team was shared between Tuolumne, Mariposa and Calaveras counties and Yosemite National Park. The traveling locations, which are open on Mondays at the Groveland Community Hall and the Tuolumne Memorial Hall on Thursdays from 7am to 7pm. Schedule an appointment up to a week in advance on the same LHI website as for the Mother Lode Fairgrounds testing site which is open 7 days a week: www.lhi.care/covidtesting.
