SALT LAKE CITY – According to the Utah Department of Health, COVID-19 cases in Utah jumped 570 on Saturday, with an additional five deaths and 26,098 vaccinations.
The day marked the one-year anniversary that Utah declared a state of emergency for the coronavirus pandemic and the state’s first confirmed case.
The moving seven-day average number of positive cases per day now stands at 527, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that period reported with the “people over people” method is now 9.5%. The positive test rate per day over seven days calculated with the “test over test” method is now 4.6%.
There are currently 194 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Utah, including 77 in intensive care units, state data shows. About 71.5% of all intensive care beds in Utah are occupied, including 74.8% of the intensive care beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals. According to the health department, about 54.2% of non-IC hospital beds are occupied.
A total of 843,032 vaccines were administered in the state, up from 816,934 on Friday. According to data from the health department, a total of 546,814 people have received at least one vaccine dose, while 304,168 have been fully vaccinated. In total, 1,005,715 vaccines have now been delivered to Utah.
Of the 2,243,694 people tested for COVID-19 so far in Utah, 16.7% have tested positive for the disease. The total number of tests conducted since the start of the pandemic now stands at 3,903,480, up from 18,594 since Friday.
The five deaths reported Saturday include:
- A Salt Lake County woman over 85 years old and not hospitalized at the time of death
- A Salt Lake County woman between the ages of 45 and 64 who was hospitalized at the time of death
- A man from Weber County between the ages of 45 and 64 who was hospitalized at the time of death
- A resident of Salt Lake County between the ages of 25 and 44 who was hospitalized at the time of death
- A woman in Uintah County between the ages of 45 and 64 who was hospitalized at the time of death
Saturday’s totals give Utah 374,438 total confirmed cases, with 14,867 total hospitalizations and 1,975 total deaths from the disease. A total of 358,249 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered, health department data shows
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox announced at a press conference Thursday that eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine will be extended to Utahns ages 50 and older, as well as nationals with more underlying health conditions.
