Calling Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes’ Successful Kickstarter campaign would underestimate things. A spiritual successor to Konami’s acclaimed JRPG series Suikoden, it brings together the main developers of the former and was first unveiled in August. In view of $ 500,000 in crowdfunding, they completely screwed up this goal to reach a whopping $ 4.5 million.
The news has since been silent, but we now have confirmation that 505 Games will release this expected game in 2022. Confirmed in a new blog post and YouTube video, Rabbit & Bear Studios’ head Yoshitaka Murayama advised:
For years we have dreamed of developing a game for genre fans that also celebrates everything we love and learned as game designers. Our team looks forward to partnering with 505 Games to bring Eiyuden Chronicle to as many fans around the world as possible.
Eiyuden Chronicle is both a throwback to the classic RPG games that have entertained millions and a modern, exciting story of discovery and adventure with a cast of hundreds of fully realized characters. Given their success and history with titles like Bloodstained and Death Stranding, and the strong personal relationship we’ve built with the people there, we feel like we have the perfect partner in 505 Games.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t make clear whether Eiyuden Chronicle will launch on Switch. Rabbit & Bear have previously outlined their concerns, claiming that due to the Switch’s age and lower specs, that version could fall closer to launch for Nintendo’s next-generation hardware. However, given Nintendo believes the Switch is only halfway through its lifespan, a successor may not even be available in 2022.
Murayama outlined a familiar situation, which we’ve seen before with other Kickstarter games, so we can understand the hesitation. At the very least, we know that Eiyuden Chronicle is coming to a Nintendo system.
