467 more COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths, more than 25K vaccines reported Saturday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Department of Health is reporting 467 more confirmed cases of COVID-19, two more deaths, and 25,861 more vaccines being administered in the state.

In total, that brings Utah to 381,254 confirmed cases, 2,060 coronavirus-related deaths and 1,137,046 vaccines administered since the start of the pandemic.

There are currently 160 Utahns hospitalized for COVID-19, including 57 in intensive care, the health department reported Saturday. The state currently uses about 75% of its ICU capacity.

Saturday’s figures come as 14,990 more tests were conducted, officials said.

In the past week, the state has an average of 469 new cases per day and a positive test over test rate of 4.1%. A month ago, Utah had an average of 779 cases per day.

The deaths reported Saturday were of two men between the ages of 65 and 84 who were hospitalized when they died. One was from Davis County and the other from Weber County, the health department said.

On Wednesday, March 24, Utah will open up a vaccination schedule for every adult in Utah who wants one. The vaccine is currently only available to people 50 and older and those with certain underlying health conditions.

The opening comes because the state expects the end of its mask mandate on April 10. Many companies and local governments are still weighing their own ongoing mask requirements.
