447 more COVID-19 cases, 17 deaths, 31K vaccinations reported Friday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah jumped 447 Friday, with 17 more deaths and 31,146 vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.

Twelve of the deaths reported Friday occurred before Feb. 19, but were still under investigation by medical researchers, according to the health department.

The health department estimates there are 11,063 active COVID-19 cases in Utah. The moving seven-day average number of positive cases per day now stands at 474, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that period reported with the “people over people” method is now 8.3%. The positive test percentage per seven-day daily mean, calculated with the “test over test” method, is now 4.2%.

There are now 176 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 61 in intensive care units, state data shows. According to health department data, about 73% of all beds in the Utah intensive care unit are occupied, including about 76% of the intensive care beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 55% of the non-IC hospital beds are currently occupied.

A total of 1,111,185 vaccine doses have been administered in the state, up from 1,080,039 Thursday. In total, 737,243 Utahns have now received at least one dose of vaccine, while 402,988 have been fully vaccinated. A total of 1,300,120 vaccine doses have now been shipped to Utah.

The new numbers indicate an increase of 0.1% in positive cases since Thursday. Of the 2,320,731 people tested for COVID-19 so far in Utah, 16.4% tested positive for COVID-19. The number of tests conducted since the start of the pandemic now stands at 4,082,117, up from 15,565 since Thursday. Of those, 5,967 were tests from people who had not previously been tested for COVID-19.

The 17 deaths reported Friday were:

  • A Cache County man over the age of 85 living in a long-term care facility
  • A Davis County man who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when he died
  • A Davis County man who was between the ages of 45 and 64 and was hospitalized when he died
  • An Iron County man who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when he died
  • A Salt Lake County man aged between 65 and 84 who was hospitalized when he died
  • A Salt Lake County man who was between the ages of 18 and 24 and was hospitalized when he died
  • A Salt Lake County man over the age of 85 living in a long-term care facility
  • A Tooele County man over the age of 85 who was hospitalized when he died
  • Two Washington County men who were between the ages of 65 and 84 and were hospitalized when they died
  • A Cache County woman who was between the ages of 25 and 44 and was hospitalized when she died
  • Three women in Salt Lake County who were between the ages of 65 and 84 and were hospitalized when they died
  • A woman in Uintah County who was between the ages of 45 and 64 who was hospitalized when she died
  • A Washington County woman who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when she died
  • A woman from Weber County who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when she died

Friday’s totals give Utah 380,787 total confirmed cases, with 15,241 total hospitalizations and 2,058 total deaths from the disease. According to the health department, a total of 369,666 COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered.

Utah government Spencer Cox gave a COVID-19 update at a press conference on Thursday.
