40 new deaths, 252 new cases reported in Orange County on Feb. 21 – Orange County Register

Forty new deaths were reported by Orange County public health officials on Sunday, Feb. 21, bringing the total COVID-19 fatalities to 3,810.

County deaths data is compiled from death certificates or collected through case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death was on February 13.

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 252 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the count’s cumulative total to 244,632 cases since the tracking began.

The county also reported 577 patients in local hospitals. 190 patients were registered in intensive care units on Sunday, nine fewer since the previous report. The totals of hospital patients are about the same level as at the end of November.

The California Department of Public Health’s vaccine dashboard shows that as of February 20, 620,629 vaccine doses were distributed in Orange County.

An estimated 5,426 cases of the virus have been recorded in Orange County in the past 14 days. The 14-day mean of the cases was 9,111 a week ago.

According to the county update, 2,962,759 tests for the coronavirus have been conducted since local testing, with at least 12,110 new tests since the previous report.

Of the cumulative 3,810 deaths reported from the virus, 940 were skilled residents of nursing homes, 428 lived in assisted living facilities, one was an OC inmate, and eight were classified as homeless.

The breakdown of the number of deaths by age in the province is as follows:

  • 85 and over: 32.89% (1,253, up 10)
  • 75-84: 23.96% (913.5 up)
  • 65-74: 19.27% ​​(734, up 6)
  • 55-64: 13.81% (526, up 18)
  • 45-54: 6.56% (250)
  • 35-44: 2.2% (84)
  • 25-34: 1.05% (40)
  • 18-24: 0.24% (9.1 up)
  • 17 and younger: 0.03% (1)

It is estimated that 223,522 people have recovered from the virus as of Sunday. The number of people who have recovered is based on the cumulative number of cases in the past 28 days.

The data posted every day is preliminary and subject to change, officials stress. More information may become available as individual studies are completed.
