4 candidates to replace Chuck Pagano as Bears defensive coordinator

Kim Klement-USA Sports TODAY

When watching young defensive coaches on the rise, the Bears should start with defensive coach Jay Rodgers. Rodgers has been on the staff since the John Fox era, and it’s easy to see why given the line of defense was one of the best units during that era.

Rodgers served as a defensive assistant / coach with the Broncos from 2009-2014 before joining Fox in Chicago, where he served as the Bears’ defensive coach.

While Rodgers has no experience with defensive coordinators like the others on this list, everyone has to start somewhere. Just look at Brandon Staley, a former coach of Bears outside linebackers who later became the Rams’ defensive coordinator. Chicago should consider Rodgers for the job.
