3 things the return of Tyson Alualu means to the Steelers

If nothing else good came from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pittsburgh Steelers singing Tyson Alualu again is one of them. It was believed that Alualu planned to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars this season and the Steelers would have to figure out how to replace him.

But Alualu is back, and this is big for the Steelers. Here are the three big things that Alualu’s return means to Pittsburgh.

The injury bug hit hard in the middle of the Steelers defense last season. Inside linebacker Devin Bush and Alualu both missed time and the entire defense suffered. If the Steelers will be counting on Robert Spillane in the middle all season, Alualu will make me much more comfortable for him.

The Steelers have significant draft needs on both sides of football. Getting Alualu to sign with Pittsburgh could have a serious ripple effect in terms of design and give the Steelers more power to focus on the attacking side of the ball early on.

Alualu is now the second Steelers starter to face a free agency who decides to come back to Pittsburgh with more money elsewhere on the table. This is the kind of culture-winning franchise.
