3 new COVID-related deaths in Tuolumne, 1 in Calaveras

Tuolumne County – Tuolumne Public Health reports that their ongoing investigations have confirmed that there were two more COVID-related deaths in January, a man in her 80’s and a woman in her 90. They also report that an investigation into the death of a woman from in the nineties who was released from isolation is now also a confirmed COVID-related death. In total, Tuolumne County has added six new community cases since Friday; two Saturday and four today. The new cases are a boy aged 17 or younger, a woman aged 18 to 29, a woman and a man aged 50 to 59, a man aged 80 to 89 and a woman over 90. Five people have been released out of isolation, currently there are no cases. hospitalized.

Tuolumne County has a total of 4,014 cases across 2,598 community cases, and the Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) incarcerated cases remain at 1,416. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports that SCC currently has no active COVID-19 positive inmates in the prison. The total number of community cases released from isolation is 2,524 and the total number of tests administered is 78,582. The province reports 24,657 vaccine doses administered in Tuolumne.

Calaveras County – Calaveras Public Health reports another death for a total of 51 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic. There are five new COVID-19 cases in their report as of Friday, dropping the county’s total number of cases at 1,972 and active cases by six to ten. The number of recoveries increased by nine to 1,911. The report does not include active COVID-19 hospitalizations. In total, 911 men, 1043 women, and 18 with no gender reported were infected with COVID-19. The total number of people over the age of 65 identified with COVID has increased by one to a total of 434 since the start of the pandemic.

Vaccines: Tuolumne Public Health will vaccinate people 45 and older with the Pfizer vaccine tomorrow, March 23, among other eligible groups.rdIf you qualify and can qualify tomorrow, fill out their online application form or call them right away at 533-7440. They encourage those eligible to get the COVID vaccine as soon as it is available to them. To test: The Mother Lode Fairgrounds test site is open Sunday through Thursday from 7am to 7pm, and closed on Fridays and Saturdays. Groveland’s location is at the Youth Center, 18950 Hwy 120 on Thursdays from 7am to 7pm. State blueprint to reopen: As mentioned here, Tuolumne is located in the Red Layer along with Calaveras. Evaluations will be made by the state on Tuesday. The data and tier allocations released this week are based on the week ending March 6 with a 4.1 case rate and a 1.3 test positivity rate.
