The New York Jets are now a decade away from their back to back AFC title game trips. When that nasty team, which had just eliminated the 14-2 New England Patriots a week earlier, left Heinz Field on a cold January night in Pittsburgh, the fanbase, as well as many in the organization, really thought they would come back. . There were not. In the ten years since that night in 2011, the Jets have endured nothing but recycled coaches and bad football.
In 2021, the Jets (keyword here) appear to have taken the first steps to end this era of basement habitation. New head coach Robert Saleh comes over from the Bay Area after completely turning the 49ers’ defenses upside down. Saleh gets a lot of credit from his former players and was arguably the top name in this 2021 NFL coaching cycle.
Time for the Jets to add some talent
With Saleh, two coordinators arrive who clearly state what they are trying to do on both sides of the ball. Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur (brother of Matt!), Brings another variation of the “Shanahan attack” that we’ve seen shine and run in many different places in the league. Defensively, Jeff Ulbrich comes over from Atlanta and takes another person out of that “Seattle boom” where Saleh got his start. We can make very substantiated assumptions about who this team will be interested in based on their technical staff.
With a team that has as little talent as this, free agency and design is an exciting time. Fans have been running mock draft simulations since November. Here we are, more than a month away from free agency. The Jets will be up and running again in March, but hope to be more effective this time. Who are some of the goals that could change the way the Jets watch the NFL Draft 2021 in April?
