3 defensive starters still out

The 49ers’ injury outlook for Saturday’s match-up with the Arizona Cardinals remains relatively bleak. While Dion Jordan and Tarvarius Moore returned to practice on Wednesday, three defensive starters remained on the sidelines.

Richard Sherman still has a calf problem. Jimmie Ward is in concussion protocol and Javon Kinlaw has a knee injury.

With the short week due to a Saturday kick-off, San Francisco has one less day to get players healthy enough to play. A ray of optimism can be found in the fact that in a typical week Wednesday is the first day of training and the players who were beaten on Sunday did not participate anyway.

However, not participating in the first two training days is not a good sign for their availability towards Saturday. Thursday’s practice and subsequent injury report will give us a better indication of what the team’s health will look like against the Cardinals.
