2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is a 200 mph weapon

With 668 horsepower on tap, this is the most powerful production Cadillac in history.

Cadillac

Cadillac unveiled a pair of high-speed cruise missiles on Monday. No, this tough luxury car maker will not enter the arms trade, even if the new Blackwing versions of it CT4-V and CT5-V cars are essentially missiles on the road. With mega power and a lot of technology, these two high-quality sports sedans are ready to rival models of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-AMG.

The 2022 CT5-V Blackwing is superlative in more ways than one. For starters, it’s the most powerful production Cadillac ever made. To keep that ample dizziness in check, it also has the biggest brakes in the brand’s long history. From its aggressive body to a track-proven engine and purposeful interior, this machine is all about speed. Therefore, maximum performance and driver involvement were top priorities during the development of this car and its little brother, the CT4-V Blackwing.

The power and plenty of tire-smoking theatrics if you fancy toasting a bit of rubber is a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8, an engine hand-built in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the country of the Chevy Corvette. Thanks to 46% more intake airflow and a more freely breathable exhaust system, this engine delivers 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque.

Three interior themes are offered in the new CT5-V Blackwing, which should provide drivers with plenty of choice.

Managing that output is a standard six-speed manual (yes!). It’s powered by a dual-disc clutch designed to withstand all that torque and give a good pedal feel. For added performance, active speed adjustment and no-lift option come as standard. Thanks to these features, you can downshift perfectly every time and lock the throttle with each gear lever to keep the big V8 pumping.

If you’d rather not dance the three-pedal shuffle, a 10-speed automatic is available in the CT5-V Blackwing. This transmission can shift faster than some dual clutch gearboxes and is even more refined. In terms of performance, with the self-shifting transmission, this Caddy can reach 100 km / h in just 3.7 seconds and its top speed is north of 200 km / h. The CT5-V Blackwing has rear-wheel drive only but, like its smaller sibling, comes standard with an electronic limited slip differential for more control in tight corners. Both cars also feature Cadillac’s latest Magnetic Ride Control, which allows you to adjust the dampers to your preference, giving you a smooth ride for commuting and a much stiffer feel when you’re on track or on your favorite back road .

The CT5-V Blackwing is equipped with massive Brembo brakes to keep things safe and secure and withstand insulting hot laps. At the front, the rotors have a diameter of 15.7 inches and are clamped by six-piston calipers. The rear drives are a bit smaller but still huge, with a 14.7-inch clock. They are compressed by four-piston calipers. To take it one step further, you can also get a carbon-ceramic brake system. Not only is this setup even more resistant to heat than the standard setup, it reduces unsprung weight by 53 pounds, which is a relatively big reduction.

Here it is, 6.2 liters of supercharged glory.

The CT5-V features lightweight, forged aluminum wheels. These staggered width rollers clock in at 19 inches and are fitted with a bespoke set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires designed with special compounds specifically for Blackwing duties.

A range of different elements visually distinguish this car from lesser CT5s. To begin with, the body has been massaged to cut through the wind with less resistance. The front grilles allow more air to flow under the hood to keep temperatures under control, and the car has a front splitter, rear spoiler, functional fender vents and too many other elements to mention. For extra looks and even better performance, a carbon fiber aero package is offered, which reduces lift at speed by 75%.

Inside, the CT5-V Blackwing has a familiar interior, which is nonetheless upgraded compared to standard models. Customers can choose from three different cab trim levels, including different colors and materials, from standard leather seats to front trunks finished in imitation suede and carbon fiber. In terms of technology, the car comes standard with a camera system with surround view and an always handy head-up display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an AKG sound system with 15 speakers and a 12-inch digital instrument panel are also included for free. A powerful steering wheel, microfibre headlining and a second-generation Performance Data Recorder so you can relive your driving style are all available. For a bit of visual flair, manual transmission models have a 3D printed cap on top of the gear lever.

You can now pre-order a 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, although deliveries won’t start until later this summer. This ultra-high-performance sports sedan doesn’t come cheap either, although the price isn’t that outrageous considering how much you’re getting. It starts at $ 84,990, which includes a $ 995 destination fee.
