2 waves of snowfall to hit Tuesday

DETROIT A winter weather advice is in effect for Detroit and all of Southeast Michigan from Sunday midnight to Tuesday afternoon.

A flood warning is also in effect along the St. Clair River.

The storm bringing snow and ice to southern Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi will be a major blizzard for southern Michigan on Monday. Two waves of snow will come, with lighter snow on Sunday and heavier snow late on Monday. Have your snow shovels and snow blowers ready.

Sunday evening it will be cloudy and very cold. Temperatures will be in the teens and low 20s. Scattered gusts are possible before midnight.

Two rounds of snow are arriving in Detroit and southeastern Michigan from Sunday evening to Tuesday morning.

The first round arrives on Sunday after midnight. Nighttime lows are in the top single digits as light snow showers crisscross the region. Much of the snow will be delayed Monday morning 1 to 3 inches possible in mid-morning

Monday afternoon it will be mostly cloudy and very cold. The highlights will be in the middle teens.

The second snow round will occur in the region late Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning. The snow will be more scattered and intense. By the end of Tuesday morning an extra 3 to 7 inches of snow accumulation are possible.

A total of 6 to 9 or 10 inches of snow is possible. The greater amounts of snow (7 to 10 inches) are more likely in areas closer to the Great Lakes and the Detroit River and St. Clair River (from Port Huron via Mt Clemens, Monroe and Luna Pier). Lower snow build-up, which will still be significant (5 to 8 inches), will occur in neighborhoods much further north and west of Detroit (Livingston County via Flint, Lapeer and Sandusky).

Tuesdays will be very cold with midday temperatures in the higher teens.

Wednesday it will be partly sunny and cold. Daytime temperatures will be in the low 20s.

Thursday there is a chance of snow showers. The maximum temperature is almost 30 degrees.

Friday and Saturday have a mix of clouds and sun. Highlights will be in the mid-1920s.
