The Los Angeles Lakers made their first major roster of the season by releasing Quinn Cook before his contract was fully guaranteed on February 27. The Lakers now have an open selection spot and more hardcap space than would have been possible had Cook’s contract been fully guaranteed.
The Lakers will eventually use that selection spot, probably for a sold-out player. It has been reported that the Lakers are unlikely to reunite with DeMarcus Cousins, so at this point we’re just waiting for the buyout market to develop further to see who will actually be available.
What we do know is that Quinn Cook probably won’t be alone. Whether through trade or cut, the Lakers will likely say goodbye to at least one more member of the roster to make room for an improvement.
The Lakers have several players at the end of the spin who are not playing and can be easily released. In addition, recent history indicates that they will move in this direction. Troy Daniels and Cousins were the two players who did not make it to the end of the season last season.

Realistically, there are two players whose Los Angeles Lakers may be moving on after Quinn Cook. One of these players could be released and the other is a potential trade chip, although I wouldn’t rule out a trade.
