2 MDOC officers were injured during an attack by inmates at Baraga prison

BARAGA, Mich. (WLUC) – Two Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) officers were injured on Wednesday in an assault by inmates at the Baraga Correctional Facility.

According to MDOC spokesman, Chris Gautz, on Feb. 10, a high-security inmate attacked a correction officer from behind with a weapon, causing serious injury to his neck.

Gautz says the officer was able to restrain the prisoner despite his injuries, along with another officer who was also injured in the attack.

All inmates were segregated and the injured officers were taken to hospital for treatment.

“The Michigan State Police was contacted and both the MSP and MDOC are continuing to investigate the incident,” said Gautz.

Both agents were treated and released from hospital on Wednesday evening, Gautz said.
