1992’s Wise football is one of the best video games of all time, but Sensible Software developers didn’t create their classic in a vacuum. They had to work to get there, developing 1988’s Microprose football first.

The direct predecessor of Sensible Microprose– released in the US as Keith Van Eron’s Pro Soccer– had the same top-down action and arcade sensibilities as Sensible, only instead of appearing on the Amiga and PC and blowing it up in the early 90’s, it was released on the Commodore 64 and PC in the late 80’s and … was a hit too, just not the cultural power Which Sensible used to be.

Weird, despite the Microprose brand having returned from the dead, this is published by Ziggurat, probably because the new Microprose is only interested in military games. Her go for change on Steam
