185 new COVID-19 cases, nearly 5K more vaccinations reported in Utah on Monday

SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah rose by 185 on Monday, with no new deaths and nearly 5,000 more vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.

The new case numbers were the result of an additional 2,519 COVID-19 tests performed. The moving seven-day average number of positive cases per day now stands at 398, according to the health department. That number has remained between 396.3 and 406.3 new cases per day since the beginning of April.

The positive test rate per day for that period, calculated using the “people over people” method, is now 7.4% after the update of Monday’s figures. The positive test rate per day for that period, calculated with the “test over test” method, is now 3.7%.

There are now 122 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, state data shows. Of these, 61 were hospitalized in intensive care units. Data shows that both referral center and ICU statewide usage rates were percentages that would trigger an alert.

A total of 1,708,002 vaccine doses have been administered in the state, up from 1,703,065 on Sunday. The health department reported that just over 1.1 million Utahns have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and more than 680,000 Utahns have been fully vaccinated.

Monday’s totals give Utah 390,289 total confirmed cases as of March 2020, including 8,825 currently active COVID-19 cases in the state. There have also been 15,770 hospital admissions and 2,159 total deaths from the disease during that period.

The numbers reported on Monday indicate an increase of less than 1% in positive cases since Sunday. Of the more people tested for COVID-19 so far in Utah, about 1.6% have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Utah government, Spencer Cox, will provide a COVID-19 update Thursday at 10 a.m. during its monthly press conference with PBS Utah.

This week’s free COVID-19 testing sites

The department announced locations in nine counties this week where testing will be conducted through TestUtah or the Utah Department of Health / Utah National Guard’s mobile testing team. People can pre-register for TestUtah sites here or for Utah Department of Health / Utah National Guard here.
