18 bags of human remains found in Jalisco, Mexico

(CNN) – In Mexico, the discovery of 18 bags of human remains is being investigated in the western municipality of Zapopan, Jalisco. That state’s attorney general’s office said in a statement on Thursday that several municipal police officers conducting a surveillance tour in the Del Bajío area had first found a human limb, notifying the prosecution.

The search expanded to the undergrowth of a small ravine where they “tentatively” found 18 black plastic bags tied with tape, containing human remains. The Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine exactly the number of bodies in these bags. Investigators are looking for evidence and data to clarify the facts, Jalisco authorities reported.

It is not the only act of violence recorded in Zapopán this week. The Jalisco prosecutor’s office also reported on Thursday the death of a woman who “apparently shows firearms impacts on various parts of the body. Monday, one person died and three were injured after an armed group entered a restaurant and a shooting broke out between them. two criminal groups, the agency said, and a restaurant had been kidnapped.
