173 more COVID-19 cases, 1 death, 2K vaccinations reported Monday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah jumped 173 on Monday, with one more death and 2,326 vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.

According to the health department, there are now an estimated 9,242 active COVID-19 cases in Utah. The moving seven-day average number of positive cases per day now stands at 397, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that period reported with the “people over people” method is now 7.1%. The positive test rate per day over seven days calculated with the “test over test” method is now 3.5%.

There are now 121 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 47 in intensive care units, state data show. About 64% of all hospital intensive care beds in Utah are now occupied, including about 67% of the intensive care beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals, state data shows. About 47% of non-IC hospital beds are now occupied in Utah, state data shows.

A total of 1,498,039 vaccine doses have been administered in the state, up from 1,495,713 on Sunday. In total, 976,434 Utahns have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 565,539 are now considered fully vaccinated. To date, a total of 1,734,950 vaccine doses have been shipped to Utah.

The new numbers indicate a 0.04% increase in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 2,413,193 people tested for COVID-19 so far in Utah, 16.1% tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests conducted during the pandemic has risen to 4,294,735, up from 3,778 since Sunday. Of those, 2,111 were tests from people who had not previously been tested for COVID-19.

The death reported Monday was a Utah County woman who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when she died, according to the health department.

Monday’s totals give Utah a total of 387,514 confirmed cases, with 15,625 total hospitalizations and 2,133 total deaths from the disease. According to the health department, an estimated 376,139 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered.

Utah House Bill 294, also known as the state’s COVID-19 “endgame” law, requires all state and local health orders in Utah related to the pandemic to end on the day the state’s 14-day case. is less than 191 per 100,000 people, the seven-day average of COVID-19 intensive care unit use is less than 15%, and 1,633,000 primary doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been assigned to Utah.

As of Monday, the state meets the threshold in the first two statistics. The 14-day mean for cases is 179.4 and the seven-day COVID-19 ICU mean is about 9.4%, according to state data. However, according to health officials, Utah has only been assigned 920,515 prime doses of the vaccine since last week. According to the health department, the state is expected to reach 1,633,000 prime doses by the second or third week of May.
