165,000 laying hens are killed in a massive fire at Hickman’s Egg Farm in Tonopah

TONOPAH, AZ – Fire crews from multiple agencies were called in Saturday afternoon to fight a massive fire at Hickman’s Egg Farm in Tonopah.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies and firefighters responded to the fire at the southern farm.

Officials say firefighters were able to contain the fire and keep it from spreading.

A spokesman for Hickman’s Family Farms says 165,000 laying hens were tragically lost in the fire.

“We are devastated,” said Sharma Hickman, community outreach manager.

Hickman thanks the firefighters for their work and says without them, “It could have been a lot worse.”

Hickman also says that as Easter approaches, every lay is needed to keep up with demand.

Property losses have been reported as a result of the fire, but it is not known how much impact the fire has caused on the structure at this time.
