12 Christmas movies you shouldn’t miss

Garlands full of light, pine trees decorated with ornaments in multiple colors, the typical character dressed in the red and white colors of Santa Clós and of course idyllic landscapes full of pristine white snow. These are just some of the ingredients that can always be found in the Christmas movies we have seen so many times. The incredible thing is that every year they release new movies that revolve around these dates and can range from dramas and comedies, although most that are plentiful are love stories.

There are really many Christmas movies available on streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, HBO Max and Disney +, to name a few. That is why I am now going to try to find a balance between those films that have become true classics, combined with several films that have been released in recent years.

Home Alone (1990)

Platform: Disney +

This modern classic, a bit in the lead Macauly CulkinIt has the perfect mix between a family history, full of hilarious episodes, along with the drama that parents have suffered from the disappearance of their youngest son, along with the dangers that child is exposed to while home alone. This is without a doubt one of the most watched movies a year around Christmas time.

Last Christmas (2019)

Platform: HBO now

Starring Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and with Henry Golding (“Crazy Rich Asians”), this movie has the best songs of the deceased as its soundtrack George Michael, this film is a kind of tribute to his memory. This love story depicts the life of Kate, a young woman who has not been very successful in her life, but who one day meets Tom, a man who will change her life forever in the shop who works as a sales clerk.

Klaus (2019)

Platform: Netflix

Nominated for Academy Award for Best Animated Film From 2019, “Klaus” shows how a simple act of kindness always infects others, regardless of whether you are in a frozen and distant place. This is what happened in the town of Smeerensburg, when their new postman, Jesper, befriends the toy maker Klaus, whose gifts manage to end an old feud and start a Christmas tradition in that town and around the world.

Holidate (2020)

Platform: Netflix

Sloane (Emma Roberts) and Jackson (Luke Bracey) meet randomly in a department store. Both are tired of blind dates, as are nosy relatives, especially during holidays. In this way, they come to an agreement where they only meet as a couple during the holidays to make their life, and those family gatherings, a little bit more bearable. Slowly, their relationship turns into something deeper than friendship, so they have to make a decision.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)

Platform: Disney +

One year after Kevin McCallister (Macauly Culkin) was left home alone and had to defeat some clumsy robbers (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern), he accidentally ends up in New York City, and the criminals themselves are not far behind. This sequel maintains the formula that made the original film so successful.

A Christmas Carol (2009)

Platform: Disney +

This is an animated version of the classic written by Charles Dickens. On this occasion, the movie stars play Jim Carrey, who plays the character Ebenezer Scrooge. This old miser is visited by three spirits on Christmas Eve, who let him meditate and analyze the steps he has taken in his life, what his present is like and what his immediate future will look like.

It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

Considered the greatest Christmas movie of all time, “It’s a Wonderful Life” stars James Stewart considered one of the most loved and respected actors in his day. The film tells the story of an angel sent from heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman (Grant), showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed.

Filmed in London in 2004, this movie presents the story of four couples who intertwine with other characters, who in turn know each other, to create an amazing spider web that revolves around the season’s favorite theme: love. This movie features a series of stars led by the charismatic Hugh Grant, and accompanied by Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley and Bill Nighy, among other things. In this movie you can laugh, cry, think and feel better at the end.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

It’s Christmas and the Griswolds are preparing for a family celebration, but Clark never goes well (Chevy Chase), his wife Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo) and his two sons. Clark’s continued bad luck is compounded by his unsavory family guests, but he further manages to know that his Christmas bonus is coming soon. Everything gets complicated when the Clark receives some hard news.

Scrooged (1988)

Bill Murray stars in this comedy that is a modern version of “A Christmas Carol.” In it, Murray portrays Frank Cross, a successful television channel director, but who has a disastrous relationship with friends, co-workers and family. One night he is visited by three ghosts, who help him analyze his life.

Eleven (2003)

In this comedy, after he finds out he’s human, Buddy (Will Farrell)a young man raised as a goblin in the North Pole decides to travel to New York City to meet his real father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan). However, Hobbs had no idea that Buddy existed. Always disguised in a green gnome suit, the young man experiences the joys of New York City as he tries to continue a relationship with his grumpy father.

The Polar Express (2004)

This is the story of a young man on Christmas Eve who boards a powerful magical train on his way to the North Pole and to the house of Santa Clós. This journey will be a journey of self-discovery that will teach you that the beautiful details of life never fade to those who believe.
