Moore was taken to hospital on Sunday for respiratory problems after being treated for pneumonia in recent weeks, his daughter said, adding that he was not in intensive care.

“The medical care he has received in recent weeks has been remarkable and we know that the wonderful staff at Bedford Hospital will do everything they can to put him at ease and hopefully return home as soon as possible,” she said .

According to PA Media, Moore was joined in July by his daughter, son-in-law Colin Ingram, grandson Benji, and graduate Georgia.

“I could never have imagined that this would happen to me. It is such an honor and I am very much looking forward to meeting Her Majesty the Queen,” he said at the time. “It will be the most special days for me.”

“When I kneel down, I never get up,” he added as he left home for Windsor Castle.

Moore, who achieved the rank of captain during his military career, was promoted to honorary colonel in recognition of his efforts.

From royal splits to PR crises, Queen Elizabeth had a tough 2020. But the pandemic gave her renewed relevance.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has personally recommended the Queen to honor Moore exceptionally, a Downing Street press release said at the time.

“Colonel Tom’s fantastic fundraiser broke records, inspired the nation and provided us all with a beacon of light through the fog of the coronavirus,” Johnson said in the release.
