A Texas State Trooper is in a stable condition after being shot chasing a person suspected of opening fire on a Central Texas business park on Thursday afternoon, killing one person and injuring five others hit, says the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The trooper is in serious but stable condition and the suspect is in custody, NBC 5 has been informed.

Eric Buske, Bryan’s chief of police, said shortly before 5:00 p.m. CDT that a person they believe was an employee of Kent Moore Cabinets showed up at the company’s headquarters and began shooting near the warehouse.

One person died on the spot, while five others were hospitalized for gunshot wounds – four of those patients are in critical condition. A sixth person was also hospitalized after an asthma attack.

According to Buske, the shooter had disappeared by the time officers arrived at the warehouse, shortly after the first call was received at approximately 2:30 PM.

Buske said the Texas Department of Public Safety may have taken the shooter into custody after an incident near Iola, which is about 20 miles away, but the information had not yet been confirmed.

The victims were transferred to St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital.

A motive for the shooting has not yet been confirmed.

Bryan police, Lieutenant Jason James, said at an informal press conference Thursday afternoon that the shooting site is safe and witnesses are currently being interviewed.
