1 dead, another seriously injured when fired into vehicle near Goleta | Local news

Emergency workers responded Thursday afternoon after two people were shot in a vehicle near Goleta.

According to Lieutenant Erik Raney of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, one person was pronounced dead on the spot.

The deputy sheriff, firefighters and AMR ambulances were dispatched to block 600 of Burtis Street near Hollister Elementary School shortly after 12:30 PM.

They found two victims in a car, a late Audi sedan, Raney said.

The passenger was pronounced dead on the spot and the driver was rushed to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Deputies set a perimeter around the scene looking for a single suspect who fled on foot, Raney said.

He added that the suspect – described as a white man in his twenties with dark hair, possibly wearing blue jeans and a gray shirt – is considered “ armed and dangerous. ”

A sheriff’s helicopter and K-9 teams were also reportedly deployed to assist in the search.

Meanwhile, an injunction was issued for residents south of Hollister Avenue, between Patterson Avenue and Turnpike Road.

The affected neighborhood recedes to Atascadero Creek and then More Mesa, and deputies ransacked the area for a suspect.

The shooting was reported by a youngster who entered the Hollister School office, Raney said.

Additional details were not readily available.
